The lives of several individuals working in the massive Seacoast National Bank Building intertwine in various plots, shaped by their aspirations. The most prominent persona is David Dwight, the philandering owner of the bank, who keeps his estranged wife content by financing her extravagant trips around the world. Sarah, Dwight's loyal secretary of many years, longs for their separation to legitimize her romance with him. However, Sarah exhibits her kindness by playing the role of a guardian to Lynn Harding, a young and innocent assistant she employs. Tom Sheppard, an outgoing bank teller, relentlessly pursues the beautiful Miss Harding, but he is frustrated when Dwight entices her with his wealth and influence. Eventually, Dwight manipulates the company's stock price, wreaking havoc on everyone's finances, to gain full control of his skyscraper.
